The 2025–26 season will mark Coach Murray’s 7th year at the helm of the Concord-Carlisle hockey program. This past year, the Patriots posted a 14–6–1 record, finishing with one of the best goals-against averages in the state at 1.76. The year prior, CC reached the Division 2 sectional finals and Elite 8 with an 18–5 season that included a 14-game winning streak to start the year.
Before taking over at CC, Murray spent 10 years at Wayland High School, including 7 as Head Coach. Over his head coaching career, he has compiled a record of 144–98–35, with a winning percentage of .583. He has captured 2 North Sectional Championships, 2 League titles, and has been recognized as both MetroWest Daily News Coach of the Year and MVC/DCL Coach of the Year.
Murray, or “Muzz” as he’s known around the local rinks, spends his summers directing local hockey camps all over New England and occasionally works for USA hockey to help educate youth hockey coaches. He is well-versed in the fundamentals of skating, shooting, and stick-handling.
Rian has a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University and earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Assumption College, where he was a four-year starter and senior captain of the Greyhounds. As a senior, he and his linemates registered a whopping 5.9pts/g together, forming one of the most offensive trios in all of D2/3. He is also one of the all-time leaders in games played at Assumption with 99. Murray played his high school hockey at Arlington and was named one of Boston Herald’s “Players to Watch” during a senior campaign in which the Spy Ponders finished 4th at the Super 8 tournament, becoming the highest-ranked public school team in the state.
